Multi-brand camera and video retailer
Fixing a Camera Store's SEO in the Template, Not Page by Page
How a young multi-brand camera retailer on Shopify took on a competitor with thirteen more years of domain history by fixing product data, schema and brand pages once, for every page.

A multi-brand camera and video retailer on Shopify was losing its searches to a competitor whose domain was thirteen years older, and whose product pages were copied from a distributor with the images hotlinked. Authority was not something the younger store could buy quickly. Page quality was.
What we found
The weaknesses were in the template, so every product page shared them. Product schema had no return policy, no shipping details and no breadcrumbs. There were no brand pages at all, and no product had a product type. The body copy never used the technical terms buyers of cinema and video gear actually search for, while the same block of shipping and returns text repeated on every product page, and 161 images with empty alt text loaded on every page.
Merchant Center showed 592 offers as Limited, which looked alarming. Almost all of it came from a pending local-inventory review that costs nothing. Only 18 offers had real defects: promotional titles, a handful priced at zero, and two filed in the wrong Google category.
A second audit six weeks later found what the first pass had not reached: product SEO titles had never been rewritten, many opened with “Buy”, and images on 85 products carried German or French alt text inherited from supplier listings.
What we changed
The template first. Product schema was completed once in the theme, so every product page gained breadcrumbs, a return policy, shipping details and a barcode where one is known. 34 brand collections were built from the brand field with their own copy, and every collection at the time got a meta title, description and written introduction.
Then the catalogue. Every product got a product type, with storage drives that had been filed as memory cards and headphones filed as microphones moved to the right place. Spec tables went into product descriptions, and one page went from zero to five mentions of the video terms its buyers search for. Every active product got a plain SEO title and description, with no promotional titles left, and 268 image alt texts were rewritten into English.
Barcodes were the one place we went slowly on purpose. Matching them by product name needed three rewrites of the matcher before it stopped confusing near-identical camera bodies, and only certain matches were applied, because a valid but wrong barcode can get a Merchant Center account suspended.
Where it stands
Checked on the live store: all 12 sampled product pages carry breadcrumb, return policy and shipping schema, none of them has a promotional title, and no product is missing a type or carries foreign-language alt text. At the second audit Merchant Center showed no account issues and no ineligible products. We are not claiming a traffic figure here; search data on a young domain needs longer than a few weeks to read honestly.
Which fixes belong in the template and which in each page, and how we match barcodes without risking the feed, is the part we keep.
The store is described rather than named. Every figure on this page is one we measured on it.
